The building housing Harborside Inn was designed as a mercantile structure by Gridley James Fox Bryant - a famous 19th century architect and builder whose projects included Boston's old City Hall. Renovated as a hotel in 1997, features of the original construction were preserved and highlighted as a reminder of its historic past. These historic details are combined with comfortable furnishings such as authentic oriental rugs and sleigh beds in every room. Hardwood floors and exposed brick walls enhance authenticity and reproductions of historic maps and prints and adorn the halls.
